WHAT IS COSMETIC TATTOOING?

Cosmetic tattooing, also referred to as semi-permanent makeup or micro-pigmentation, is the process of implanting colour pigment beneath the surface of the skin by means of tiny, sterile, disposable needles to produce the appearance of makeup, or to enhance the natural features of the face. It is a lip tattoo that enhances and defines your lips. It can help enhance and even out natural colour, or add colour if you are lacking any pigment. Your lips will look darker and more like lipstick on the first day, and soften as they heal to become a subtle, natural looking lip tint. Apply a little gloss or balm and your lips are perfectly kissable!

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COSMETIC TATTOOING AND STANDARD BODY TATTOOING?

The purpose of cosmetic tattooing is to enhance the natural features of a client. Cosmetic tattooing is softer and more subtle – it is meant to be a natural-looking enhancement. Body tattoos use ink while cosmetic tattoo procedures involve pigments. These pigments are designed to gently fade over time. Fading is desired as it allows the artist to make changes to colour and shape over the years as client’s natural colouration and facial changes occur.

WHAT PIGMENT DO YOU USE?

For lip blush we use organic pigments. We use the safest semi-permanent pigments to use for skin.

DOES COSMETIC TATTOOING HURT?

A highly-effective, topical anesthetic cream and gel are used for numbing before and during your procedure. Pain threshold levels vary from person to person and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable for the entirety of the procedure. It is slightly uncomfortable but completely bearable. The tattooing process lasts about 2-3 hours. The more moisturized your lips are, the easier it will be for the artist to implant pigment. If you are nervous about pain, you may take 1-2 Tylenol 30 minutes before your appointment. DO NOT take Advil or drink a coffee before your appointment. Coffee and Advil will thin your blood, causing you to bleed a lot and make you more sensitive during the procedure. Having this service performed during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during your procedure. If you are a frequent smoker, the topical anesthetics used during the treatment will not last as long. If you have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, be aware that this may affect your sensitivity tolerance to the procedure.

HOW CAN I BOOK?

Booking is done through this website through the "Book Now" page and a 50% deposit is required to secure a space.

HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?

Depending on your skin, health, and if you come for touchup refreshers, your tattoo will last from 2-5 years.

Here are some factors will cause your semi-permanent tattoo to fade faster:

  • Oily skin

  • Retinol or Vitamin C

  • Iron deficiency

  • Sun exposure

  • Exfoliants

  • Exposure to salt water

WHAT SHOULD I AVOID BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT?

  • No coffee (24 hours prior)

  • No alcohol (24-48 hours prior)

  • Avoid extreme sun exposure

  • No blood thinning medication

  • No Ibuprofen

  • No fish oils or Omega 3

  • No Vitamin C supplements

  • No pre and/or post workout supplements and/or drinks

  • No makeup before your appointment

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THE PROCEDURE?

The artist will go through a full consultation, and discuss how certain colours will best complement your lips. Next, she will pencil in the lip shape, and numbing will be applied for 20 mins before the procedure will begin.

CAN I GET LIP BLUSH IF I HAVE DARK/COOL TONED LIPS?

Yes, however, on the first session we will have to colour correct your lips to cancel out the cool tones. This means the initial colour we tattoo MUST be orange! If we are to tattoo any other colour you risk darkening your lips further or having absolutely no results at all. When healed at 6-8 weeks, most if not all of the darkness in your lips will be covered and your lips will have a nudey-pink even tone. Note that results cannot be guaranteed and lightening or evening out dark lips may take a few sessions. Under no circumstances will Vanassa tattoo a "NUDE" colour on dark or cool toned lips. If you are unsure if you have dark or cool toned lips you can send Vanassa at vanassa@studiovanassa.com a picture of your lips in natural light to confirm. Lips too dark or thick will be rejected so please be sure to email pictures if your lips are extremely dark grey or black in colour.

DO I NEED A TOUCHUP?

Touchups are available to everybody. On touchup sessions, we can alter the shape and colour of your tattoo or go bolder or fill in spots that didn't retain pigment as well as others during healing. Touchups will also add longevity to the life of your tattoo. A Touchup can be booked no sooner than 6 weeks of your last appointment. Please read the FAQ page to ensure you have waited long enough from laser treatments, filler, or botox to have a touchup done. To book touchups or to find a specific spot that is not on the booking system please email Vanassa at vanassa@studiovanassa.com. Touchups between 6-12 weeks will be complimentary. After 12 weeks, additional touch up pricing will occur.

CAN I STILL GET LIP BLUSH IF I HAVE LIP FILLER?

Yes! In no way does having lip filler interfere with the process of tattooing lips or the results. Not that lip filler and lip blush appointments MUST be at least 4 weeks apart from each other.

AM I ABLE TO HAVE THIS LIP TREATMENT?

You may NOT have this procedure if :

  • You are under 18

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Have been on Accutane within the past year

  • Have HIV or Hepatitis or any other infectious or viral diseases

  • Undergoing Chemotherapy

  • You are Epileptic

  • You are taking medications that may affect how your skin responds to blood clotting and healing

  • You develop infections easily

  • If your previous tattoo is too dark or thick (please email Vanassa at vforoutanpay@gmail.com a photo)

HOW CAN I PREPARE?

  • Please ensure lips are WELL MOISTURIZED AND EXFOLIATED prior to your appointment. We recommend you start moisturizing with Vaseline and exfoliate with brown sugar and honey every night for a week before your appointment.

  • Do not consume caffeine and alcohol for 24 hours prior to your appointment to prevent excessive pain and bleeding.

  • Do NOT TAKE ADVIL or other blood thinners such an Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E and/or Ibuprofen unless medically necessary, 48-72 hrs prior to your procedure. Extra strength Tylenol can be taken if you have low pain tolerance.

  • Avoid exercising the day of the procedure.

  • Do not take or get any chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing, vitamin E, retinols, fish oil, at least 4 weeks before your appointment.

  • Please read the aftercare and arrange your schedule accordingly to the healing stage. There is downtime for every procedure.

  • If your appointment is booked during an outbreak of cold sores on your lips the procedure may not be done. Please be aware that you have the simplex virus herpes, you may awaken an outbreak following this treatment. It is highly recommended to take an anti-viral medication such as Zivorax 5 days before, then the day of. Then 5 days after or as advised by your doctor or pharmacist.

  • Do not get lip injections 4 weeks before and after this treatment.

  • On the appointment date, we will consult about shape and colour before we start the tattoo. Tattooing will not start until the final design is drawn for you and agreed on.

WHAT FACTORS WILL AFFECT MY COSMETIC TATTOO?

  • Sun exposure: The sun will extremely soften the look of your tattoo, so sunblock should be used (once healed) to prolong your enhancement.

  • The regeneration of skin cells: The longer the regeneration takes, the longer the pigment holds.

  • The speed at which the skin absorbs the pigment: The slower the absorption, the longer the pigment will hold.

  • Bleeding during the procedure: Any bleeding during the tattooing procedure will reduce the amount of pigment absorption. Alcohol and certain medications act as blood-thinners and should not be taken prior to and following your appointment.

  • Aftercare: Failure to follow the aftercare diligently during the first 2 weeks of healing can contribute to less than desired results.

  • Iron Deficiency: If you suffer from Anemia or low iron this could affect the way your body reacts to the pigment. The pigment used contains iron oxide which can result in the pigment to fade or change in hue due to your body absorbing the iron.

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT LONG TERM CARE?

  • A good sunscreen should be applied daily AFTER healing and is required to help keep colour true. As with any tattoo, sun exposure will make the colour soften faster.

  • Fading speed depends on your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, pigment colour used, broken capillaries, and if any chemical peels were done after your procedure.

  • If you are planning a chemical peel, laser treatment or other medical procedure, please inform the technician that you have had a cosmetic tattoo. Careful application must be taken to avoid affecting the tattooed area.

IS THE STUDIO AND EQUIPMENT SAFE?

Absolutely! We pride ourselves on having an immaculate and sterile studio space. We only use single use, disposable needles and supplies. This means that each set-up for each new client is discarded safely afterwards. Each of our stations are thoroughly disinfected before opening and after each procedure throughout the day.

CAN YOU COVER UP AN OLD TATTOO?

Please email me pictures of your previous tattoo to confirm that I’m able to do a coverup.

DOES THIS PROCEDURE TRIGGER COLD SORES?

This procedure can trigger cold sores for carriers of the herpes simplex virus. To prevent cold sores from flaring up it is recommended to go to your family doctor and get Zovirax or another antiviral medication prescribed to take 5 days prior procedure, the day of, and 5 days after. Note that a cold sore outbreak can alter the healed results of the tattoo.

FOR LIP BLUSH CAN WE GO OUTSIDE THE LIP LINE?

Yes, only a maximum of 2mm. The skin on the lips is not the same as on the face and things can look unnatural or get unpredictable when we tattoo too far outside the natural lip line.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE AND WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

The procedure takes about 2-3 hours. The consolation and prep work take a good portion of that time. I want to make sure after we have discussed your concerns and I've drawn out a shape that we are both on the same page before I start the procedure. Once we are both happy, I will begin outlining your lips then I’ll apply numbing cream for a couple minute then we will start the shading process. During that time the non toxic ink can get in your mouth which doesn't taste the best, but is ingestible and non toxic.

WILL I STILL HAVE TO WEAR LIPSTICK? CAN OTHER COLOURS STILL LOOK THE SAME ON TOP?

This is up to the look each individual is trying to achieve. The colours I tattoo with are natural and intended to look very natural. We can certainly enhance your natural colour or add colour if you’re lacking, or add a specific tint that you’re looking for, but it remains soft and natural. That way when you do decide to change it up and want to wear lipstick it will still look great over top, and can cover your tattoo with whatever colour we decide to use.

HOW CAN I PAY?

We accept cash and credit card. A 50% deposit is required when booking online.

IS IT CUSTOMARY TO TIP FOR PERMANENT MAKEUP?

Tips are very much appreciated! As in any service-based industry, it is customary to tip 10-20%

HOW MUCH ARE TOUCHUPS?

  • Booked within 3 months of the last session are complimentary

  • Booked within 6 months are $125

  • Booked within 12 months are $200

  • Clients who haven't had a touchup within 24 months will be need to be assessed before booking

WHAT IF I'VE HAD HAD MY LIPS TATTOOED BY SOMEBODY ELSE? CAN I STILL BOOK WITH YOU?

I do not touchup other artists' work or work over previous work done by another artist. I only work on natural lips that have not been tattooed before. If you have a previous tattoo, you can send in a photo of them to vanassa@studiovanassa.com to be advised. In very rare cases, I do take clients who have had previous work that is undetectable, but a lot of the time I cannot and will not work over other artists work.

Please do not arrive to your appointment if you have a previous tattoo without consulting first as I may have to cancel the appointment and the deposit will be forfeited on the spot.

AM I CONSIDERED A DARK LIP NEUTRALIZATION OR A LIP BLUSH?

If your lips are two-toned, cool, brown, dark looking, you will need to have a neutralization procedure.

If you are still not sure, send a photo of your lips in natural lighting via email to vanassa@studiovanassa.com to confirm.

HOW DO I BOOK A TOUCHUP?

Booking is done through this website through the "Appointment Scheduling" page, under touch up and a 50% deposit is required to secure a space.

INKLESS STRETCH MARK, SCAR LIGHTENING, AND CAMOUFLAGE TATTOO FAQS

WHAT IS PARAMEDICAL TATTOOING?

The term Paramedical relates to services and professions that supplement and support medical work but do not require a fully qualified physician. Paramedical tattoos can be used to aid in healing as related to medical conditions whether that includes hair loss related to Alopecia, scarring left from surgeries and skin grafts, 3D tattoos related to mastectomies, or radiation marker camouflage related to cancer treatment.

The Paramedical Tattoos offered at Studio Vanassa include treating Stretch Marks, Radiation Markers, and Scar and Skin Camouflage.

WHAT ARE STRETCH MARKS?

Known medically as striae distensae, stretch marks are visible linear scars which develop in areas of dermal damage as a result of excessive stretching of the skin.

WHAT CAUSES STRETCH MARKS?

Stretch marks develop when our skin stretches or shrinks quickly. The abrupt change causes the collagen and elastin, which support our skin, to rupture. As the skin heals, stretch marks may appear. Not everyone develops these narrow bands on their skin. Fluctuating hormone levels seem to play a role. You may also have a higher risk if people in your family get stretch marks.

If you develop stretch marks, you're most likely to do so during:

  • Growth spurts that happen in puberty

  • Pregnancy

  • Rapid weight loss or gain

  • Weight training when you have rapid muscle growth

WHAT ARE SOME CHARACTERISTICS OF STRETCH MARKS?

When stretch marks first appear, they tend to be red, purple, pink, reddish-brown, or dark brown, depending on your skin colour. Early stretch marks may feel slightly raised and con
be itchy. In time, the colour fades and the narrow bands sink beneath your skin, If you run your finger over a mature stretch mark, you often feel a slight depression. The epidermis of stretch marks tends to take ink deposits more readily than skin without stretch marks It will also damage easily because the tissue. Is often thinner and more fragile, especially in wider stretch marks (3/16" / 4 75mm in width or greater).

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM INKLESS STRETCH MARK / SCAR LIGHTENING?

All ages, all ethnicities can benefit from these procedures, as long as they are an eligible candidate.

WHERE CAN INKLESS STRETCH MARK / SCAR LIGHTENING BE PREFORMED?

Inkless Stretch Mark Camouflage can be done on any stretch mark on the body. Please submit a photo of your scar to ensure the Inkless Scar Lightening tattoo is right for you- an additional patch test might be required.

WHEN CAN INKLESS STRETCH MARK / SCAR LIGHTENING BE PREFORMED?

Anytime ofter a stretch mark has healed and is not red, pink or purple, indicating it is still healing. Once formed the stretch mark(s) are healed, usually takes about a year to heal, the procedure can be preformed- unless there is still weight gain happening. Unlike ink camouflage for stretch marks, you do not need to be untanned for Inkless Stretch Mark/ Scar Camouflage.

WHY IS INKLESS STRETCH MARK / SCAR LIGHTENING PREFORMED?

Confidence! Although some people wear their stretch marks proudly, many others prefer to conceal them.

HOW LONG DO RESULTS FROM INKLESS STRETCH MARK / SCAR LIGHTENING LAST?

Providing that you do not gain or lose a significant amount of weight and reman in good and/or similar health as when being treated, the benefits of treatment can last for many years.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE AND WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

The procedure takes about 1-3 hours. The consolation and prep work take a good portion of that time. I want to make sure after we have discussed your concerns and I've examined the area of concern, that we are both on the same page before I start the procedure. Once we are both happy, I will begin tattooing.

IS THE STUDIO AND EQUIPMENT SAFE?

Absolutely! We pride ourselves on having an immaculate and sterile studio space. We only use single use, disposable needles and supplies. • Pregnant women

  • Chronic skin conditions, infections or skin cancer are currently being treated

  • Prone to keloid scars

  • Recent use of accutane

  • Recent use of blood thinners

WHO IS A CANDIDATE?

Your scar should be:

  • Healed and no longer pink or changing colour: Your scar should be at least 9 to 12 months old with stable colour. If it is red or pink or still changing colour, the tissue may still be healing. A reputable, experienced medical tattooist will not work prematurely on scar tissue because it may cause further damage to the skin. (Note: If you were under a physician’s care for the condition, ask him/her if you may undergo skin colour tattooing before contacting Studio Vanassa).

  • Smooth and relatively flat: Camouflage tattooing cannot disguise or correct extreme changes in skin texture. If your scar or skin area is bumpy or raised, the process may not be effective. (Note: If you have any skin surface irregularity, please consult with a Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon first to see if any type of medical treatment can first improve the skin texture).

  • Without dark edges: Dark edges or borders around a scar indicate Post Inflammatory Hyper-pigmentation (PIHP) from the initial trauma or surgery. It is possible that the camouflage tattooing process may increase hyper-pigmentation and create a wider, darker border. (Note: The risk of this happening is usually greater with darker skin tones.)

  • NOT one of the following: Port Wine birthmarks; spider veins; freckles; age spots; under-eye circles; hyper-pigmentation; or unstable Vitiligo (not in remission). These can be improved with non-tattoo medical treatments such as lasers, sclerotherapy, or chemical peels. Please consult with a physician regarding the best course of treatment for these conditions

WHAT ARE KELOID SCARS AND CAN YOU TATTOO ON TOP OF THEM?

  • Irregular and raised scars

  • Dark in colour

  • Form when extra collagen exists

  • Enlarge progressively beyond their original margins over time

  • Are genetic

  • In scar camouflaging Keloid scars are challenging to correct, and are best left alone. If keloid scars exist in the area of the stretch marks I will likely avoid them. If you’re still interested in the procedure but are prone to keloid scarring it is unlikely Inkless Stretch Mark technique will elicit a keloid scar response however I could do a test patch to be certain. Camouflage may be a better option for you.

EYELASH EXTENSIONS FAQS

WHAT ARE LASH EXTENSIONS AND AM I ABLE TO GET THEM?

Lash extensions are semi-permanent synthetic, faux mink or silk fibers which are applied strand by strand to your natural lashes.

The extensions are carefully applied one at a time using a specially-formulated, semi-permanent glue that will not irritate or damage the natural lash. Unlike false eyelashes, where the strip or individual lashes are applied to the skin, lash extensions are attached directly to the lash itself. The results are more lush, dense lashes that let you skip mascara. Lash extensions look great without any extra work. You’ll have to follow a few special care guidelines so that your extensions stay in place as long as possible.

Generally, if you have natural eyelashes, you can get lash extensions. If your natural lashes are in optimal health and you do not have any hair-loss conditions, sensitivities or allergies (we're sharing more on this below), then you should have no problem being able to get lash extensions!

HOW DO I MAINTAIN LASH EXTENSIONS?

To maintain your lash extensions, it will require touch-ups, or refills, to replace them. This is a process of adding lash extensions to those new lashes that have reached the 5 to 6 week maturity level or hair growth cycle. With proper care and maintenance, your lash extensions will last as long as your own lash, but can be maintained indefinitely with refills. To keep your lashes full and lush, we recommend getting a touch up (fill), every 2 weeks.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY LASH APPOINTMENT?

It’s always good to be prepared, and we don’t ask for much. We do ask that you arrive to the studio 5 – 10 minutes early so you’re not feeling rushed and unsettled, with all oil-containing sunscreens/moisturizers and any eye makeup to be removed from around the eyes, as it will affect the adhesive performance. If you typically wear waterproof mascara, we ask that you take a break from it for a couple days so we know it will all be gone by your appointment.

WHY NOT EVERYONE IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR LASH EXTENSIONS

Below are some reasons lash extensions aren’t always a good fit for our guests.

  • Lack of Natural Lash Hairs: In order to get lash extensions, you must have natural lash hairs for the extensions to attach to.

  • Alopecia: A condition causing the inability to grow hair.

  • Chemotherapy Hair Loss: Lash extensions will be possible again once lash hairs grow back and are strong enough to hold the extensions.

  • Mechanical Damage: Hairs that have been removed or are too short due to using a manual curler or scissors.

  • Trichotillomania: A disorder that involves recurring urges to pull out body hair, including lashes.

    * For guests who suffers from this disorder, we suggest setting up a consultation so our stylists can look at the lash line. In some cases, eyelash extensions can still be applied and have actually kept people with this disorder from tugging on their natural eyelashes.

  • Poor Natural Lash Health: Lashes that are extremely short, thin and fragile may not be strong enough to support eyelash extensions. To strengthen your natural lashes, we recommend adding foods and foods and vitamins to your diet to your diet that promote hair growth.

  • Damaged Natural Lashes from Poor Lash Application: Sometimes, guests come to us with natural lash damage after receiving a poor lash application at another salon or with an outside lash stylist. In these cases, we recommend guests wait for the damaged lashes to naturally shed before applying extensions. This could mean waiting anywhere from one to three months, depending on how much damage is present. After that, they can schedule a consultation and our stylist will check the natural lash growth progress.

  • Allergies to Adhesives: Anyone with an allergy to the medical-grade adhesive cyanoacrylate (an industry standard when it comes to the application of eyelash extensions) may not be a candidate for lash extensions. However, our salons do carry a variety of adhesives ranging in strength to accommodate guests with allergies. For guests who would like to determine whether an alternate adhesive would make sense for them, we invite them to come in before their appointments for a patch test.

  • Thyroid Medication: A guest who is on thyroid medication can still be lashed; however, they could experience increased shedding. If extreme shedding does occur, scheduling a refill appointment every week is recommended to keep that lash line full.

  • Active Eye Infections: If a guest has conjunctivitis, a sty, blepharitis and other eye infections, they are not lash candidates. If you have signs of an infection, we recommend you see your physician. Once the infection is gone, you’ve got the green light to reschedule your lash appointment!

  • Recovering from Procedures: If you are recovering from any type of eye procedure (cataract surgery, a LASIK procedure, a surgical eye or brow lift, etc.), you will need to be released from your doctor’s care before getting lash extensions and potentially any other services we offer. This also applies to eyebrow microblading. Once the brow has healed, then your regular lash extension routine can resume.

I WANT LASHES FOR A SPECIAL OCCASION, WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY APPOINTMENT?

Firstly, congratulations on your special occasion! We know that with a lot of special occasions, there is usually a lot to do and not a lot of spare time, so we recommend coming in for the full set 10 – 15 days before the occasion and then scheduling a fill a day or two beforehand. This will ensure you are used to your new look and that your lashes will look their best on the big day.

LASH LIFT & BROW LAMINATION FAQS

WHAT IS A LASH LIFT?

A lash lift works with your natural lashes to create a luscious semi-permanent curl that will last between 6-8 weeks. We use a technique combining a lifting lotion and silicone rods to lift your natural lashes, making them look longer and fuller. We recommend lash lifts as a great alternative to eyelash extensions. Lash lifts are one of our favourites, making the lash curler a beauty tool of the past! Our techs will apply a rounded guard to your eyelid and carefully set your lashes against it to give you the most even lashes possible. We then carefully apply a three-step process that will leave you with curled lashes for up to eight weeks, add a tint and you may even decide to skip the mascara. This is a great option for someone that doesn’t want extensions but wants something to enhance their lashes.

HOW DO I MAINTAIN MY LASH LIFT?

Once the lash lift aftercare period is over, the results are really low-maintenance and you don’t have to worry much about them. It’s enough to brush your lashes with a spoolie from time to time, and refrain from touching your lashes and rubbing your eyes. After the first 2-3 days, you don’t have to follow the lash lift aftercare instructions anymore – you can relax and go swimming, work out, wash your face, sleep in whatever position you like, and you don’t have to worry about your lashes. Just make sure you don’t use oil-based products until 21 days afterwards.

WHEN SHOULD I TOUCH UP MY LASH LIFT?

As your natural lashes grow, they take their natural shape. You can repeat the treatment after two months. The shortest period after which it can be redone is 6 weeks.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR A LASH LIFT APPOINTMENT:

Prior to your treatment, please make sure your eyes are free of makeup, mascara, and false eyelashes. If you use Latisse or another lash serum, please stop product use for 24-48 hours prior to your appointment. Lastly, if you wear contact lenses please make sure they are removed prior to treatment.

LASH LIFT "DON’T” IN THE FIRST 24 HOURS AFTER TREATMENT:

    •    DON’T get your eyelashes wet

    •    DON’T apply mascara or eye makeup

    •    DON’T sweat

    •    DON’T go into a sauna

    •    DON’T use oil-based products

    •    DON’T rub your eyes

HOW LONG DOES A LASH LIFT LAST?

A lash lift will last about 6-8 weeks (sometimes longer) depending on aftercare. Following the aftercare instructions given above for the first 24 hours after your treatment will help with longevity. In addition, we recommend brushing your lashes in an upright position anytime following a shower (or after getting your lashes wet) to help keep the shape of them.

WHEN CAN I SHOWER AND WASH MY FACE AFTER LASH LIFT?

You can shower the very same day, but make it short and not too hot. It’s best to avoid any type of moisture to your lashes for at least 24-48 hours following your lash treatment. This is because in the immediate hours after the lift, the lashes are returning to a normal PH level. Water, steam from hot showers, mascara, etc. can weigh down the lashes and compromise the lift that was set via the chemical change from your treatment. Think of it as being similar to getting your hair done at the salon. You wouldn’t want your hair to get rained on after leaving the salon as it would cause the hair to go flat - water would have similar effects to your newly lifted eyelashes. You can wash your face as you usually do 48 hours after a lash lift treatment, once your lashes have hardened and settled, but don’t use oil-based products as it weakens the chemical bonds that keep them curled.

Use wet cotton pads and clean your face gently, avoiding the eye area, in the first 48 hours.

BROW LAMINATION FAQ

WHAT IS BROW LAMINATION?

Eyebrow lamination is the latest beauty secret that will thicken and enhance your natural brows. Similar to the idea of a lash lift, brow lamination involves the application of a setting lotion that gives the brow hair a semi-permanent “brushed up” and lifted look. Whether you have thin, thick, or over plucked eyebrows, brow laminating is the perfect solution to give you the everyday look you want, without effort.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR A BROW LAMINATION APPOINTMENT:

We ask that you avoid using exfoliants, retinoids, or AHAs on your face for one to two weeks before your brow lamination. Avoid tweezing at least one week prior to your appointment (if you’re interested, we do offer the option to add on a brow wax or thread to your lamination appointment). And lastly, please come to your appointment without any makeup on your face as it will affect the results of the service.

BROW LAMINATION "DON’T” IN THE FIRST 24 HOURS AFTER TREATMENT:

    •    DON’T get your eyebrows wet (avoid the shower & bath)

    •    DON’T work out or do any physical activity that will cause you to sweat

    •    DON’T go into a sauna

    •    DON’T use oil based products

    •    DON’T apply heavy creams, makeup, or makeup remover to your brows

    •    DON’T sleep directly on your brows

  • No waxing, threading or razoring the brow area within 24 hours of appointment

HOW LONG DOES BROW LAMINATION LAST?

A brow lamination will last about 6 weeks (again, depending on aftercare). Be sure to follow the “Don’ts” mentioned above in the first 24 hours following your treatment for longevity. In the 48 hours following your treatment, you can apply a hydrating balm or a castor oil to your brows daily. We also recommend brushing your brows in an upright/styled position anytime following a shower (or after getting your brows wet) to help keep their new shape.

WHY CAN’T I GET MY BROWS WET FOR 24 HOURS AFTER A BROW LAMINATION TREATMENT?

Similar to a lash lift, keeping your brows dry in the 24 hours following your lamination treatment is very important. During the lamination process, we use an assortment of creams as well as a permanent gel to relax and shape your brows. If you get your eyebrows wet too soon after we finish applying these products, your brows do not have a chance to set with their new shape.

HENNA + TINTING FAQ

WHAT IS A LASH / BROW TINT?

There are many benefits when it comes to tinting your eyelashes. Those who want to emphasize their eyes and lashes, are allergic to mascara, or have other issues with using makeup products will find the procedure beneficial. Eyelash tinting allows people to have the eyelashes they want without having to bother with mascara.

Eyebrow tinting gives you bolder, natural looking eyebrows since the actual hair of the eyebrow is tinted to a darker colour, eliminating that “drawn on” look. Penciled eyebrows can be easy to spot, so why not save yourself the hassle by investing in eyelash and eyebrow tinting.

These tinting services will help you save time applying makeup in the morning and your tinting professional will make sure your lashes and brows look just how you like.

IS THE DYE SAFE TO GO AROUND MY EYES AND WILL IT LAST?

Eyelash and eyebrow tinting is a completely painless process that involves adding colour and shape to the eye area. For the brows, the dye is applied directly onto eyebrows and sits for 10-15 minutes until the dye has developed.

Tinting the eyelashes involves a few more steps, but is still pretty simple. Before dyeing, a protective eye pad is applied to protect the skin, and you will need to keep your eyes closed for the entire process. Similarly to brow tinting, the dye is brushed onto lashes and is left to process for about 5-10 minutes before wiping off any excess product and removing the eye pad. These tinting methods only take about an hour of your time and the results can last up to three to four weeks. During your eyelash and eyebrow tinting service, our certified aesthetician will aid you in choosing the perfect colours to best accent your hair, eyes, and face. All you have to worry about is relaxing during the simple procedure.

WHAT IS HENNA TINTING?

Henna is a dye prepared from the plant Lawsonia inermis, also known as the henna tree. The temporary body art resulting from the staining of the skin from the natural dyes. After henna stains reach their peak colour, they hold for a few weeks, then gradually wear off by way of exfoliation.

WHAT DOES THE MAINTENANCE FOR HENNA ENTAIL?

WAXING FAQ

WILL MY HAIR GROW BACK THINNER?

As the hair is pulled from the roots, this reduces hair growth. It varies from person to person, but even though your hair will grow back less, it may not necessarily be thinner. You’ll just have less of it.

DOES WAXING HURT?

Firstly, it depends on where you’re getting a wax done. If you’re getting an intimate wax done, then you will experience some pain undoubtedly, but even with this, some parts are less sensitive than others. Plus, the first time is the worst, so if you get it done every 3-6 weeks when the hair is waxable again, the pain lessens. If you become a regular waxer you’ll notice that your hair will become sparser, making it easier to wax…and less painful! All in all, some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, and most importantly pain is subjective

AM I A GOOD WAXING CANDIDATE?

Waxing is never done on clients taking Accutane and is not recommended for clients taking Retin A, Renova, Differin or other types of skin thinning acne medications. Please read the label carefully and consult your dermatologist if you are taking any medication or using any topical cream that contains these medications. Individuals do react differently to these medications and sometimes waxing can be done if proper patch testing is completed.

  • Accutane (Acne medication) – You must be off this medication treatment course a minimum of one (1) year prior to waxing.

  • Adapalene (Acne medication)

  • Alustra (Retin A)

  • Avage (See Tazorac – Acne medication)

  • Avita (See Retin A)

  • Differin (Acne medication)

  • Isotretinoin (See Accutane)

  • Renova (See Retin A)

  • Retin A (Acne and Anti-aging medication)

  • Tazarac (Acne medication)

  • Tazarotene (See Tazorac)

  • Tretinoin (See Retin A)

If you are currently using any of the following, please inform your esthetician. These products can make the skin more sensitive. Thin, sensitive skin is more vulnerable to lifting/breaking and sensitivity during waxing.

  • Other Acne medications not listed above

  • Bleaching agents for hair (used mostly for upper lip)

  • Bleaching agents for pigmentation of skin (Hydraquinone, Trilumena)

  • Previous chemical depilatories such as Nair

  • Benzoyl Peroxide (ProActive)

  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids (Glycolic, Lactic)

  • Oral Antibiotics

  • Topical Antibiotics

  • Retinol

  • Salicylic Acid

  • Other exfoliants

PRECAUTIONS & CONSIDERATIONS:

Please read these valuable guidelines:

  • Sunburned, irritated or areas with open skin cannot be waxed.

  • Moles cannot be waxed.

  • You must wait a minimum of seven (7) days before waxing after a light chemical peel or Microdermabrasion.

  • Waxing cannot be performed if you have been in a tanning booth the same day.

  • Waxing cannot be performed if you have had laser skin resurfacing within the past year.

  • If irritation should occur, recommend you use an antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin to keep the area continually moist to avoid infection and scabbing.

  • No sun/tanning booths for 2 days previous to and following a waxing treatment. Extra precaution should be taken if using tanning accelerators. Wait 2-3 days to wax before/after tanning with accelerators.

  • No hot baths for 24 hours following a body waxing treatment.

  • No abrasives for 24 hours following a waxing treatment.

  • No deodorants for 24 hours following an underarm waxing treatment.

  •  Waxing may be uncomfortable, but if you are concerned you may take an anti-inflammatory, such as Advil, 30 minutes prior to your appointment

HOW LONG SHOULD THE HAIR BE BEFORE BOOKING A WAX APPOINTMENT?

The ideal length for waxing is about 1/4 inch to 1/2 an inch (0.5 cm to 1.5 cm). If your hair is not long enough, our esthetician will let you know. If you decide to go ahead with the treatment, that’s not a problem at all. It is simply likely that we are not going to be able to get all the hair, as they’ll be too short to stick to the wax. Likewise, if the hair is too long the esthetician can trim it for you as waxing will be more painful with longer hairs.

WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO GET RID OF POST-WAXING RED SKIN?

The simple, yet most effective way of calming down red skin is by moisturizing. Waxing removes the top layer of the epidermis revealing new, softer ones but simultaneously it strips away the skin’s natural oil and moisture. To restore the moisture and rejuvenate the skin, it is worth checking out some of these products that we recommend to complement your waxing experience.

HOW DOES THE HAIR GROW BACK? HOW OFTEN SHOULD I BOOK A WAX APPOINTMENT?

It depends on how fast your hair is growing but on average we would recommend getting waxed every 4 weeks. This is usually the right amount of time to have the hair at the right length, and will also allow the skin to be less sensitive to treatments. For our female clients: we recommend avoiding treatment around that time of the month: your skin will be more sensitive 5 days before and after.

DO THESE TREATMENTS HELP ME LOSE WEIGHT?

While permanently removing fat will result in losing weight, it’s not a weight loss procedure or a substitute for a healthy lifestyle and does require maintenance.

DO THE RESULTS LOOK NATURAL?

All you’re doing is (non-surgically) removing fat cells. The results you see are all-natural and 100% you. Body sculpting can help you bring out your ideal natural physique, but it won’t completely change your body.

IS IT PAINFUL?

No. Body sculpting is non-surgical, therefore you avoid much of the discomfort associated with liposuction and other surgical procedures. The Ultrasonic Fat Cavitation device does emit a high pitched sound so we do recommend bringing headphones or earbuds if you have sensitive hearing.

  • Please note: you will be using the washroom significantly more as the fat cells are primarily drained through the urinary tract

HOW IS BODY SCULPTING DIFFERENT FROM LIPOSUCTION?

So you know that body sculpting kills fat and helps shape and firm targeted areas of your body. But isn’t that what liposuction does? Sort of, but with a few key differences :

Liposuction uses a suction technique to remove fat from targeted areas. It is a surgical procedure that requires anesthesia and a longer recovery time (usually 1-2 months) than body sculpting. Associated risks include complications from anesthesia, bleeding, and uneven fat reduction.

Body sculpting has minimal side effects and because it is non-invasive, it allows you to get back to your normal routine immediately following treatment.

HOW SPACED OUT SHOULD MY APPOINTMENTS BE?

We recommend 1-2 weeks for best results, however treatments can be done up to a month apart and still produce amazing results.

HOW MANY INCHES CAN I EXPECT TO LOSE?

In clinical studies, patients report an average of 1-inch post treatment. In clinical trials, the average ranges from 0.5 – 3 inches.

WHAT TECHNOLOGIES ARE USED?

  • Radio-frequency: RF therapy uses low energy radiation to heat the deep layer of your skin called the dermis. This heat stimulates the production of collagen to help improve signs of wrinkles and sagging skin. Therefore you are left with tighter, smoother, and more toned skin. Research has found that RF therapy is safe if used correctly and can be effective at treating mild or moderate signs of aging.

  • Laser lipolysis: It is medical grade machine penetrates the adipose fat tissue and dissolves the membrane allowing the fat to be easily transported out of the body through the lymphatic system.

  • Ultrasonic cavitation: Ultrasonic cavitation tones the body using radio frequencies and low-frequency ultrasonic waves. These waves form bubbles around fat deposits under the skin. The bubbles then burst, breaking the fat deposits into the interstitial and the lymphatic systems where they are drained. The fat deposits are changed into glycerol and free fatty acids. Glycerol is then reused by the body while free fatty acids travel to the liver and are excreted as waste.

  • Vacuum therapy: performed using a machine connected to suction cups that suck on the skin and flesh to stimulate blood flow and the lymphatic system. It also helps to firming-up the buttock muscles. This stimulation thus enhances natural fat elimination in the butt, reduces the appearance of cellulite and, above all, increases the volume of the booty.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE PROCEDURE?

The body sculpting artist will go through a full consultation, and to discuss your goals and areas of concern. Next, she will take the before photos of the area(s) that will be treated. Then your treatment will commence. You will be lying on the bed for anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes. It is recommended to bring a phone, book, or something else to occupy you. Otherwise we do offer free naps.

IS THE TREATMENT SAFE?

Treatment is safe and effective for all skin types, sizes and colours. No long-term nor short-term health effects have been reported.
