Lip Blush Aftercare: How to Heal Perfectly in Edmonton

You just got lip blush, or you are thinking about it. How do you take care of your lips so they heal beautifully? Great aftercare is the difference between good results and stunning results. At Studio Vanassa in Edmonton, we walk every client through the healing process. This guide gives you everything in one place so you can heal with confidence.

Your Day by Day Healing Timeline

Days 1 and 2: Bold and Swollen

Right after your appointment, your lips will look much darker and more intense than the final result. This is completely normal. Expect some swelling, especially in the first 24 hours. Your lips may feel tight, tender, and a little dry.

What to do: Apply the aftercare balm we provide and keep your lips clean. Ice wrapped in a clean cloth can help with swelling.

Days 3 and 4: Peeling Begins

This is when flaking and peeling usually start. Your lips may look patchy as the top layer of skin sheds. Do not pick at the flakes. Let them fall off naturally so the pigment underneath stays intact.

What to do: Keep applying balm, stay hydrated, and resist the urge to exfoliate or peel.

Days 5 to 7: The Light Phase

As peeling finishes, your lips will look surprisingly light, almost as if the colour disappeared. Do not panic. This is called “ghosting” phase and it happens to almost everyone. The pigment is still there, settling into the deeper layers of skin.

What to do: Continue gentle balm application. Your lips are still healing even though they look calm.

Week 2: Colour Returns

Around the two week mark, the true colour starts blooming back through. It will look softer and more natural than day one.

Weeks 3 to 4: Final Result

By week four, your lips have settled into their healed colour. This is when you see what your lip blush really looks like: a soft, natural wash of colour that enhances your lips without looking like makeup. Most clients book a touch-up session 6 to 12 weeks after the initial appointment to perfect the shape and colour.

What to Avoid During Healing

The first 7 to 10 days are the most important. Here is what to skip:

  • Spicy, salty, or very hot foods. They irritate fresh lips. Stick to mild foods and lukewarm drinks for the first few days.

  • Kissing. Give your lips a full 10 days before any lip to lip contact.

  • Swimming pools, saunas, and steam rooms. Chlorine, heat, and steam interfere with healing.

  • Direct sun exposure. UV fades fresh pigment fast. Once healed, SPF lip balm becomes your best friend.

  • Picking or exfoliating. Let every flake fall on its own.

  • Whitening toothpaste. It can be harsh on healing lips. Use a gentle toothpaste for the first week.

  • Alcohol. It dehydrates you and thins the blood, which is not ideal during early healing.

When Can You Wear Lipstick Again?

Wait at least 10 to 14 days before wearing lipstick, lip gloss, or lip liner. Your lips need that time to close and settle. When you do start wearing colour again, here is the fun part: you will need far less of it. Many of our clients find they only reach for a clear gloss now, because the lip blush already gives them the tint and definition they used to create with makeup.

Edmonton Winter Dryness Tips

Edmonton winters are brutal on lips, and freshly healed lip blush needs extra protection in dry, cold air. Here is how to keep your results looking fresh all winter:

  • Humidifier at night. Indoor heating dries the air. A bedroom humidifier makes a real difference.

  • Layer your lip protection. Use a hydrating balm under a thin layer of petroleum jelly before going outside in extreme cold.

  • Stay hydrated from the inside. Drink plenty of water. Dehydrated lips look dull no matter what you put on them.

  • SPF even in winter. Snow reflects UV. A lip balm with SPF protects your pigment year round.

  • Avoid licking your lips. Saliva evaporates fast and leaves lips drier than before, especially in cold wind.

A Note on Touch-Ups

Lip blush typically needs a touch-up 6 to 12 weeks after your first session to lock in the perfect colour and shape. At Studio Vanassa, touch-ups are charged separately. There are no complimentary touch-ups. We will always discuss pricing with you before you book so there are no surprises.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does lip blush take to heal in Edmonton?

Full healing takes about 4 weeks. The first 7 to 10 days involve swelling, peeling, and colour fluctuation. By week 2 the colour returns, and by week 4 you see the final result. Edmonton winter dryness can make lips feel tighter during healing, so extra balm and a humidifier help.

Can I eat normally after lip blush?

Stick to mild foods for the first few days. Avoid spicy, salty, acidic, or very hot foods, which irritate fresh lips. Drink through a straw for the first 48 hours. After about a week, you can return to your normal diet.

When can I wear lipstick after lip blush?

Wait 10 to 14 days before applying lipstick, gloss, or liner. After that, many clients find they need far less makeup because the lip blush already provides natural colour and definition.

Does Studio Vanassa offer free lip blush touch-ups?

No. At Studio Vanassa, all touch-up sessions are charged separately. There are no complimentary touch-ups. Your artist will discuss touch-up pricing before you book.
